Our reproduction is based on a later 18th century model (c. 1780-1785) by August Grenser, Dresden, one of the most distinguished makers, reflecting the Dresden school at the threshold of the Classical era.

Grenser’s instruments reflect the transition from late Baroque craftsmanship to the emerging Classical style to suited late Baroque and Rococo repertoire, including works by JS Bach, Telemann, JJ Quantz, and CPE Bach, as well as to the early Classical repertoire of the late 18th century.

An additional corps de rechange at A = 430 Hz extends the instrument’s suitability into the late 18th and early 19th centuries, covering early Classical repertoire including works by Mozart, Haydn, and the early works of Beethoven.
