The C clarinet emerged as one of the most important clarinet types during the Classical period, used by Haydn, Mozart, and early Beethoven in symphonic, operatic, and Harmoniemusik repertoire. Valued for its clear and brilliant tone, it was especially practical for concert-pitch orchestral writing before the later dominance of the A and Bb clarinets.

The keys include a speaker key, A key, E key, F# key for the left hand, along with throat trill key and an Ab key for the right hand.

A reimagining of the clarinet by Thomas Key, the renowned London maker (1805–1853).
