This 5-key clarinet in Eb, draws inspiration from the craftsmanship of J.H. Ebble White, a London-based maker.
Keys include, a speaker key, A key, E key, F# key and an Ab key.
The earliest mention of the Eb clarinet appears in Jean-Benjamin de La Borde’s Essai sur la musique (1780), where it is added to the clarinets listed by Roeser and Francœur. During the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, the Eb clarinet became widely used in military bands and dance music due to its brilliant and penetrating tone.
An early example of its use is found in J.H. Pujolas’ No. 6, Nouvelles Marches Militaires à Plusieurs Instruments (Paris, 1791). In the orchestral repertoire, the Eb clarinet gained particular prominence through Hector Berlioz, notably in Symphonie Fantastique (1830), where it is used for its sharp, incisive, and dramatic character.
