The construction of this marching snare drum meets the standards of a true professional instrument, built for performance rather than display, making it an excellent choice for professional musicians, historical reenactment groups and living history organisations.
This drum reflects centuries of military heritage, drawing inspiration from the rope tension drums that evolved from medieval military traditions and became established as field drums during the Renaissance era, remaining in military use through World War II.
The total height is 22 inches, with a 18 inch diameter wooden shell that is 18 inches high, with wooden hoops/rims.
The natural, unfinished wood shell recreates the traditional look of military drums used by the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War.
Natural calf-skin heads are fitted over wooden counter-hoops/rims on both the batter and snare sides, with gut snare wires on snare side mounted on adjustable brass fittings, following traditional construction methods. However, standard 18 inch plastic drumheads are also compatible with this drum and can be used as replacements.
The traditional rope construction method is used with cotton rope and brass rope sliders on both hoops/rims to protect their finish, while the leather braces slide back and forth along the drum rope to tighten or loosen the drum.
A carrying hook is screwed to the top hoop/rim for attaching the carrying belt, along with three brass protective feet that allow the drum to rest on the ground without damaging the hoop’s finish.
The drum comes with a carrying belt and a pair of hardwood sticks.
